General

  • What is posit::conf()?

    posit::conf is our annual conference that focuses on the R and Python programming languages and their applications in data science. The conference features a variety of workshops, talks, and networking opportunities for attendees, with a particular emphasis on fostering a sense of community among data science professionals. In addition to providing opportunities for learning and professional development, posit::conf also aims to create a fun and engaging atmosphere that encourages attendees to connect with one another and explore the latest trends and technologies in the field.

  • What will happen at posit::conf(2026)?

    posit::conf(2026) is taking place September 14 - 16 (Monday - Wednesday) in Houston, TX! Workshops take place on September 14 followed by two days of the main conference. We are also partnering with R/Pharma to host a special pre-conf Summit on Sunday, September 13 (this is an additional cost of $499).


    Throughout the general conference days, you can look forward to popular features such as Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions, The Lounge, live demos, games and swag, and an evening reception. More specific event details will be released soon!


  • Who should attend?

    Posit::conf is the ultimate hub for making connections in the open-source community and caters to all data professionals with a strong emphasis on data scientists, data science managers, and data decision makers. 

  • Will there be a virtual option to attend?

    While we strongly believe you will get the most value out of connecting in-person with the community at posit::conf, we do offer the option to purchase a virtual ticket to access the live stream of all keynotes and sessions on September 15 & 16. 


    This year, we're offering a brand-new, Posit-led virtual workshop on September 14. The virtual workshop is an add-on ticket. There are limited seats so if you are interested in joining the workshop we recommend signing up early! Following the virtual workshop will be an afternoon of virtual only talks.

  • Will there be a mobile app?

    Yes, the mobile app for the conference will be available for download approximately three weeks before the event. Registered attendees will receive instructions on how to download the app when it becomes available.

  • What should I wear?

    We encourage you to dress comfortably as our conference has a casual atmosphere. Please note that conference space temperatures can vary, so we suggest bringing layers.

  • Will there be swag?

    Yes!

  • How can I convince my manager to let me attend?

    We’ve made it easy! You can download our Justify Your Trip toolkit (on the pricing page), which includes a pre-written email template and a breakdown of the technical and professional benefits of attending posit::conf(2026).

Opportunity Scholarships

  • What are Opportunity Scholarships?

    Posit will provide opportunity scholarships to individuals worldwide who are members of an underrepresented group so they can attend posit::conf(2026). These groups include people of color, those with disabilities, elders/older adults, LGBTQ folks, and women/gender minorities. There are 40 scholarship opportunities up for grabs!


    Opportunity Scholarships will include the following:


    • Conference registration
    • Choice of workshop
    • Four nights stay at the conference hotel
    • Travel support in the form of reimbursement for flight/train/bus/cab, and incidentals totaling:
    • Domestic travelers: up to $1000 for airfare (economy class), and $275 for incidentals
    • International travelers: up to $2500 for airfare (economy class), and $275 for incidentals

  • How do I apply?

  • Can Posit provide a visa letter, if required for me to enter the US?

    Yes!

  • Do I have to pay for the conference, hotel, or workshop?

    No

  • Do I have to pay for airfare and transportation from the airport to the hotel and back?

    Yes, but we will reimburse you for these expenses. Please book economy class seats on your flight.

  • What counts as a reimbursable travel cost?

    Economy-class airfare and baggage fees, as well as transportation to and from the Houston airport. Food on travel days as well as breakfasts and dinners during conf can be reimbursed by Posit as part of the $275 reimbursement for incidentals.

  • Do I have to pay for meals at posit::conf?

    Midday meals are provided as part of the conference at no additional charge.The cost of breakfast and dinners can be reimbursed by Posit as part of the $275 reimbursement for incidentals.

  • What are incidentals?

    Food while traveling, train fare or cab from the airport to hotel and back, breakfasts and dinners during the conference, laundry, etc.

  • How do I get reimbursed for travel and incidental expenses?

    If you are selected as an Opportunity Scholarship, we will provide further instructions on how to submit your receipts for reimbursement.  Receipts must include the following:

    • Name of the service provider (i.e., taxi company, airline name, etc.)
    • The date of the transaction
    • The amount of the transaction
    • Airfare receipts should include your full name and origin and destination locations and dates of travel

  • Can I request additional reimbursements?

    Additional expenses will only be considered after all reimbursements up to the stated amounts have been processed and can only be reimbursed if there are funds left.

Workshops

  • Where can I find the list of workshops?

    You can find the complete list of workshops here.

  • Can I switch workshops?

    Certainly! As long as there is availability, you can switch to another workshop up until September 1st. To do this, locate your registration confirmation email and click ‘Modify Registration’, from there you can switch your workshop. 

  •  Is there a virtual option for workshops?

    Yes! New for 2026, Posit will host a half-day workshop on September 14 for virtual attendees. This will be offered at three different times to accommodate our global community across various time zones. 


    Additionally, the course materials from the in-person workshops will be posted to GitHub approximately one week after the program ends and will be available to the public.

  • Do you offer any discounts on workshops?

    No, we do not offer any discounts on workshops other than the academic rate.

  • Where is my workshop located? Where is the conference located?

    All conference programs will be held at the Hilton Americas-Houston. As we get closer to the event, specific room locations will be announced for each workshop which can be found in the mobile app.

  • Do I need to bring my own laptop to the workshop?

    Yes, please bring your own laptop. If you encounter any issues, please feel free to contact us at conf@posit.co for assistance.

  • Where can I view the full agenda for posit::conf(2026)?

    The Posit team is carefully curating the full agenda which will be released soon. The full details will be accessible from the website. 

  • What are Birds of a Feather?

    Birds of a Feather sessions are opportunities for conference attendees with similar interests, backgrounds, and aspirations to network and connect. More information will be shared soon with details on the 2026 Birds of a Feather sessions.

Speakers

  •  I would love to give a talk at the conference. When is the call for papers?

    The call for papers is open between January 15 - February 20. You can learn more about submitting a talk here.

  •  Is the registration fee waived for people whose talks get accepted?

    Yes, we offer waived registration fees for accepted speakers.


  • What is covered by "needs-based travel assistance" for selected speakers?

    Selected speakers may receive travel assistance, including flights and accommodations. We may also consider special accommodations such as child or elder care. If you have any specific concerns or requests, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Registration

  • How can I register for posit::conf(2026)?

    You can register for the conference here. Registration for the workshops, R/Pharma Summit, and the main conference is all available through the same link. Once you select a conference ticket you will be able to add-on a workshop and/or R/Pharma Summit. 

  • What is included in my registration?

    Your registration includes two days of access to all keynotes, talks, The Lounge, and the exhibitors. It also includes morning coffee and tea, break refreshments, and lunch daily. Please wear your badge when attending evening events. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate unregistered outside guests this year.

  • Do I need to register for the virtual experience?

    Yes, attendees must register for the virtual experience for conf. To get a virtual ticket use the 'Register Now' button. 

  • How long will the academic rate be available?

    The academic rate will be available until the event start date or until we sell out.


Cancellations & Substitutions

  • How do I cancel my registration?

    Please email us at conf@posit.co to cancel your registration.

  • Do you offer a full refund, and are there any limitations?

    Yes, we offer a full refund for any reason up until July 20, 2026. After this date, we will consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at conf@posit.co for further information.

  •  Can I transfer my registration to another person?

    Absolutely! Please reach out to us at conf@posit.co to transfer your registration to another person.

Discounts

  • Who qualifies for the academic discount?

    We are committed to supporting the next generation of data scientists and the educators who guide them. The following categories of people are eligible for the academic discount: students, teachers/faculty, university staff directly involved in teaching R/Python, and university staff involved with maintaining data science teaching servers. During the registration process, you will be asked to select your status. The discount will be automatically applied.

  • Who qualifies for the public sector discount?

    We are proud to support those using data science for the public good. This discount is available to employees of government agencies (at all levels), non-profit organizations, and international NGOs. Simply select your public sector status during registration, and the discount will be applied automatically.

  • Are there group discounts?

    Yes, we offer a discount for groups of 3+ from the same organization. The group registration rate per person is $1099. Email conf@posit.co if you plan to register as part of a group and we’ll send you a group discount code.

COVID Guidelines, Code of Conduct, 
and Privacy

  • Do you have to be vaccinated for COVID to attend this year's program or wear a mask?

    At this time, we do not require attendees to be vaccinated or wear masks, but we will follow the guidelines from the CDC and update our policy accordingly. For additional information, please refer to our Code of Conduct.

  • What do I do if I think someone has violated the conference code of conduct?

    If you observe any behavior that violates our Code of Conduct, please report it to the conference registration desk (not the hotel concierge desk), or call our monitored phone (844-448-1212). Our Code of Conduct is available for review here.

  •  I would prefer not to have my picture or video taken. What can I do?

    If you prefer not to have your picture or video taken, please inform us during registration, and we will provide you with a different color lanyard to signal to other participants and organizers that you would like to maintain your privacy.

Accessibility

  • I will require some assistance getting around the venue as I use a wheelchair. Who can help me?

    We are committed to providing a safe and accessible conference experience for all attendees. If you require assistance, please reach out to us at conf@posit.co in advance, or visit our registration desk while on-site for any accommodations.

  • Will there be a mother's room, and what will it include?

    Yes, we will provide a private room with comfortable seating and a refrigerator. Please visit our registration desk or contact us at conf@posit.co for more information.

  • Will there be a meditation space?

    Yes, we will have a meditation space available. Please refer to our conference app or visit our registration desk for more information.

  • Where will this event take place?

  • How long is the negotiated hotel rate available for ($279/night)

    The negotiated hotel rate will be available until Monday, August 24 or until we sell out, whichever comes first. We recommend booking your stay as soon as possible. You can book your room here.

  • Will vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options be available?

    Yes, we will have options for those with dietary restrictions. 

  • Will you offer childcare this year?

    Unfortunately, we will not be offering childcare this year.
